Service was great, the waitress was helpful and checked on us regularly. But food was average and wasn't done right. One of us ordered a steak to be medium rare but it came out well-done. We ordered another one to be rare but it still didn't come out right. Then we asked for extra shrimp for one of the entrees but it came out with NONE. Then they charged us for it but we pointed out the mistake and they took it off. Plus it was kind of pricey for the servings provided.

Easily the best place to eat in St Ignace. The menu offers so much more than traditional bar food and much of it is prepared fresh. The staff are also the friendliest in town. Never do they appear annoyed or put out to serve, like some of the other establishments around, no matter how busy. The dinner specials are typically inventive and not overplayed. The from scratch soups are great.

I have never left a rating this low and so I feel a little bad......and after reading the other reviews I'm wondering if it was an off night. But - - - I honestly have to say I've never had a restaurant meal this bad. We chose the Village Inn because it had the kind of casual menu we were looking for and we saw other folks' positive reviews. Oh boy...... My tomato bisque soup tasted just okay but was all lumpy and weird. My burger was greasy and simply looked unappetizing. I tasted my husband's clam chowder. Bad. He took one bite and left the rest. He said his open face Imperial sandwich was okay but it also looked unappetizing. The only thing they got right was our potsticker appetizer.

Good food and variety of gluten-free options. Nachos, gluten free pizza and Caprese sandwich were all tasty.

Bar: prices are cheap but drinks a bit watery. Restaurant: large portions, food quality okay Rooms: Very basic, very cheap price. Coffee down the hall, okay wifi, bed not very comfortable, old-fashioned tv with adequate cable channels. No hairdryer! Muffins were okay. Prepare to lug your bags up a flight of stairs. And what's up with the towels? Little signs everywhere threatening life and limb if you steal their towels. The towels were not that great! Perhaps a commentary on the clientele more than the towel quality!

I was riding my bike in the UP and stopped in here for dinner. WOW what a good burger and fries. Customer service was great! friendly people work here and made me feel at home. I must mention again the food was great. Other people were eating a lot of fish and said it was great too.

Burgers and fries were fantastic. My son ordered the fettuccine alfredo and didn't care for it and could only eat a few bites. 4 of the 5 of us tried it and didn't like it at all. Really bland on the taste. It was around $15 for it but not worth it. Waitress wasn't the best either, had to ask for refills after being empty for most the meal and she only got me a refill and the other 3 empties she never touched, we had to ask her to come back to get them for us. Outside of that the rest of the food was great and would go back again just for the burgers. Only giving 3 stars cause of the service and part of the food being ok, the rest of the food and time was great and makes us want to go back to give them a second chance.

Food was good. Service in the eatery/bar left a bit to be desired, though to be fair it was a busy night. We ordered chicken tenders, fish wrap, and whitefish. Solid. Good fries. They had a neon sign saying ' immediate seating,' this was deceiving. We had to wait at least 10 minutes, though some of us used this time to play a game of pool so time well spent. We tried the Mackinac Grille across the street first but they were packed so, VI it was. Decent choice overall.

This review is for the hotel only. I've been looking for a reasonably priced place to stay once or twice/month near the bridge. I took a chance on the Village Inn Hotel - it sounded a little bit unique given its small size and the whole restaurant thing. I arrived around 10pm after a stretch of long work days, and was ready for a restful night of sleep prior to a longish drive the following day. The employee who checked me in was polite and helpful, even going to help me with my old-school room key after I couldn't get it to work (I wasn't pushing it hard enough). For the price ($55/night in October), I knew I wasn't staying at the Ritz but I expected a clean, somewhat comfortable room. I was really disappointed when I entered the room to find the carpet full of stains. It had been vacuumed, but not thoroughly - the area behind the nightstand had visible dust/dirt on the carpet. When I pulled back the covers on one of the beds, it smelled...not good. Like, well, ammonia or something less pleasant than that. I tried the other bed with the same result. The sheets were threadbare and looked like they should have been replaced long ago (along with the pillows and the rest of the linens). I didn't sit in the chairs provided. They also looked dirty, like leftovers from some other place that had been re-purposed without ever being cleaned. I sat on the edge of the bed and waited for it to air out so I could try to sleep in my clothes since I didn't want to go searching for a decent hotel room at 11pm at night. There was no way I was changing my clothes and sleeping in pajamas there. I spent a very uncomfortable 5 hours trying to sleep, woke up, and got heck out. The bathroom didn't look too terrible but given the state of the sleeping area I was far too icked out to risk using it. The towels, from Walmart (as announced by a sign warning me not to take them with me - ha!), looked fairly clean but again, the general condition of the room killed any desire I might have had to get cozy with them. I'm not someone who needs the most luxurious of accommodations to feel comfortable, but I do like a hotel room to be clean enough that I'm not thinking of, and smelling, all of the people who slept there before me. I'll never stay at the Village Inn again.

The maple plank white fish was very well prepared and the vegetables that came with it were delicious as well.

Great pizza..( personal favorite)....friendly wait staff..good management....nice ambience.....clean...across from the Lake Huron boardwalk and Chief Wawatam Park.....steady spot

This review is only for the restaurant. We came on a Friday night, were seated promptly, our orders were taken soon after, and we had our pizza before you knew it! The pizza was actually really good - I guess I was expecting a frozen pizza quality - but it was fresh, super cheesy, with a thick, chewy crust. I completely pigged out on it. The drinks were great too - reasonably priced and strong. I can't wait to come back the next time we're in town!

It is my family's first time to St. Ignace and this place was our first taste of local food. The chicken chimichanga was excellent. Flavorful and not too heavy like some Mexican food. Had the whitefish salad and it was an impressive presentation and excellent. The kids both had personal pizzas and they were very filling. They liked the sauce especially. Would go there again. I saw the fish sandwich on another table and that is what I will get the next time.
(5)Kelli S.
Got the fried whitefish, fairly tasty. The maple plank whitefish is also pictured an I recommend both depending in your personal preferences. Service was excellent, decor cozy UP feel, and nicely decorated for hallween! The place even had a traditional jukebox.

This place was amazing! My husband and I stayed at the Village Inn for our first wedding anniversary. The room we got is very spacious with a king size bed and a Jacuzzi tub for 80 bucks a night! And we ate at the restaurant multiple times. I myself have stomach problems so I just got the soup there. ( it was awesome) but my husband got the whitefish sandwich. Which he said was pretty good. Also, the peanut butter pie. Order it. You will not regret it. The hotel doesn't have a continental breakfast or anything, but there is coffee and fresh homemade muffins around 8:30am on the way out. There is a late night happy hour at 10pm until 2am in the restaurant. My husband and I went down and had a pretty awesome time! We will DEFINITELY be back for sure!

I stayed here for a night and found the hotel to be quite pleasant. The room was neat (not utterly spotless, but still neat nonetheless) and very spacious. I had far more space than I needed. The hot water was hot and the mirror over the sink had an excellent light (great if putting on makeup). The hostess was very friendly and even escorted me to my room unasked (it could get confusing the first time one enters the hotel/restaurant). Parking is ample and the location can not be beat! The Village Inn is directly across from the boardwalk trail along Lake Huron. Additionally (and very importantly!) the price was reasonable, coming in at under $100 for one night. I recommend.
(4)Drew K.
My husband and I stayed here for Memorial weekend. It was clean, spacious and the no-fuss staff was great. Lori took my phone reservation and gave me plenty of tips for around-the-area things to do. Hannah and the nice guy were helpful when we arrived. Our room was complete with his and her robes, a king size bed with a jacuzzi tub for $66 and change. We also ate at the tavern. I had the baked whitefish and my husband had the "Hey Arnold" sandwich...both were very good. I am not a fish lover and am super picky. This fish had a very mild subtle flavor and was moist. In the morning, on our way out, we were surprised by the danish next to the "always available" coffee service. It is located across the street from the lake and minutes away from the ferry service. It is quite a gem, especially when I priced other hotels $100 plus across the bridge in Mackinac City and $200 and something on the Island. Oh man, I almost forgot...they have peanut butter pie. Usually I do not enjoy peanut butter desserts, including cookies, because they no longer taste like true peanut butter. This dessert ruined me...it was so absolutely yummy. My husband told me to take a bite and normally he is pretty safe with that...I ate half. It was so rich and smooth. If you even slightly enjoy peanut butter anything...save room for this. They make it there...I asked.

Several people I was with were looking for a gluten-free menu, so we stopped in at Village Inn Hotel & Restaurant. They have several different gluten-free dishes, and even have a sign outside listing the options, and the waitress was helpful in tailoring meals to different tastes. I don't have that restriction, so I ordered The Maple Plank Whitefish, which was very well prepared, and the green beans and potatoes were delicious also. Nice that they have a private parking lot. I'll stop there again for sure!

We arrived at the Village Inn hungry from a long drive from Minnesota with a fidgety two year old and a tired 4 week old. We were quickly seated and crayons and a coloring page were brought for our daughter, which kept her nicely entertained. I am gluten intolerant, so the many gluten free options on their menu were awesome. Both my husband and I enjoyed burgers. Mine came with a gluten free bun. So good! The bun was fresh and everything was hot and tasty. The price was decent for a tourist trap town. I rated 4 stars instead of 5 because it did take a fairly long time to get the attention of our waitress and get our bill at the end, even though it was not super busy at the time.
(4)Dawn W.
I really enjoyed the food. The restaurant was packed and the service was ok. We sat at a booth and enjoyed the food. If we are back in town for vacation we will be sure to eat here again.
(4)Brett B.
Great service with a decent selection of food and drinks. Ordered the whitfish dip for appetizer which was very good. I had the cali club and wife ordered the iggy shrimp as entree, club & shrimp were good but veggies were a little soggy for our likings. Drinks were priced great.
(4)N T.
Stopped in for lunch. Service was exemplary, food very good. Ordered sandwiches, and all in our group enjoyed their order. The bun on the burger is especially good---a bakery bun, not a bun out of a plastic bag! They were very accommodating of requests for omissions or changes to items. The view was even o.k., although across the road from the water. We will be back when in the area.

{this is what I was told via my husband I didn't go but this place is too good not to review} That place used to be the State Bar. It is one of the oldest eating establishments in St. Ignace actually dating back to the early 1800s Service was amazing! once seated waitress turned over my son's paper place mat and gave him a huge box of crayons. He immediately piped up asking for water, so before menu's were presented she brought him his water lidded and strawed. The boy ordered pizza for himself; pepperoni and green olives. I sampled the leftovers and it was some of the best pizza I have eaten ever! Husband got a Reuben and I will try to leave my personal bias against sauerkraut out of this....he said it was the single best one he'd eaten; that the corned beef was tasty and let in the mouth tender and that the kraut was good without being overpowering. My six year old son flirted with the entire female staff and as usual charmed them at a glance so anything he asked for the rest of the night was his. Will *DEFINITELY* go back and see this place firsthand during the next visit.
